About Greenland

Greenland is an Arctic island with a small population and a dramatic natural environment dominated by ice caps, mountains, and fjords. Though part of the Kingdom of Denmark, it enjoys broad autonomy and is rich in indigenous culture and Arctic wildlife.

History

Greenland was settled by Inuit peoples over 4,000 years ago. Norse explorers arrived in the 10th century. It became a Danish colony in 1721 and gained home rule in 1979, followed by self-government in 2009.
