About Maafushi

Maafushi is part of the Kaafu Atoll and one of the first local islands to offer guesthouses for budget travelers in the Maldives. It offers turquoise waters, snorkeling, diving, and a more authentic island experience compared to resort islands.

History

Once a quiet local island, Maafushi gained popularity after the Maldivian government allowed locals to open guesthouses in 2009. It played a key role in expanding community-based tourism in the country.
